Thruhike – March 2018

Masar Ibrahim al Khalil, in cooperation with its partner, Siraj Center, held its Third Thruhike for 21 days in a row starting from 3/3 and finishing on 23/3 from the village of Rummana in Jenin to the village of Beit Mirsim south of Hebron. During the last days, a special completion evening was held in Hebron including a dinner prepared by the participants (the thruhikers). The group, who walked from the north of the West Bank, to the South for twenty-one days, were given certificates of accomplishment as well as Masar Ibrahim Thruhike T-shirts at the end of the evening.

Many of the tourist guides and homestays along the trail have contributed to the success of this event, and this time we have witnessed the participation of many international journalists, filmmakers and international tour operators.
We are done now after twenty-one days of continuous walking. We had locals as well as foreigners hiking with us along the stages passing through more than 50 Palestinian villages, cities, Bedouin and refugees camps experiencing the Palestinian hospitality, discovering the beauty of the region and identifying with many issues related to Palestine. “Zaid Azhari, Operations Manager of Masar Ibrahim.

The participants expressed their gratitude and happiness to the team for taking the opportunity to walk 330 kilometers from the north to the south of the West Bank. The trail has contributed to changing the participants’ views and perspectives especially of the foreigners who came for the first time.

For me it is a great opportunity to create my own perspective of the political situation here in this conflict in Palestine, we only had information from media and it’s just false. It was a good opportunity to know the people here also different people during the hiking and off course there is a great nature that we don’t know from Europe so I am really thankful that I could be here and be part of this group.Anneli Hartmann-Klaen From Germany.

Al-Azhari also added that having such participants, whether foreign or local, made the event this time very special, “Our goal has been achieved through the friendship and family atmosphere reflected by the participants”.

Join a Culinary Tour in Hebron on that day.

The participants of the tour will receive their passports at the beginning of the tour to start collecting their stamps along the way.

More about the Masar Ibrahim Passport:

Travellers often like to keep small mementos from their journey in addition to memories. Masar Ibrahim now offers a great way to record your hiking trip in Palestine. Masar Ibrahim hikers can collect stamps from different stops on the trail and add them to their hiking passport, and in this way create a beautiful reminder of their journey. The passport can also serve as a record of completing the official route of the trail, and can also be used on weekend day or two-long hikes along the Masar Ibrahim.

However, Masar Ibrahim Hiker Passport is much more than just a souvenir. We would like to encourage all the hikers to visit certain points along the way and collect stamps there as an opportunity to meet members of local communities located along the trail. Among various sites of interest, museums and cultural sites, we would like to give a special place for local women cooperatives, where visitors could learn about their activities and productions. Masar Ibrahim Al-Khalil wishes to empower these often marginalized communities along the trail by supporting  their efforts and thereby contribute to local economic development. Read more about the women cooperatives partnering with Masar Ibrahim

Passports will be available for purchase for a small fee of 5 NIS at Women Cooperatives and Tour Operators partnering with Masar Ibrahim Al-Khalil.
