When? 19 Apr - 10 May 2017
Masar Ibrahim Al-Khalil is a long distance cultural walking route in Palestine. The trail is 321 km long and extends from the village of Rummana northwest of Jenin to Beit Mirsim southwest of Al-Haram Al-Ibrahimi (Ibrahimi Mosque) in Hebron. The trail passes through 53 cities and villages where hikers, walkers and travelers can experience the legendary Palestinian hospitality.
#ThruMasar2017 is a special, one of its kind event on the Masar Ibrahim Al-Khalil. This will be the first time that hikers will attempt to cross the full 321km of the trail in 21 days in a row. The core group will consist of 5 persons, among them Masar Ibrahim Trekking Community Guides.
You are also welcome to join the Masar Ibrahim thru-hike team at any stage of the trail. Take part in this unique experience! On most of the days, everyone will be asked to take care of their transportation to the meeting point and food expenses. However, on the first day (19th of April) on every Friday (21st and 28th of April and 5th of May), The Masar Ibrahim team will help with organizing an inexpensive bus from and back to Bethlehem. So it will be easier to join and support the thru-hikers on their way!
The Masar Ibrahim team is not a tour operator; it will help organise this event in order to raise the profile of the trail. We see this hike as having the potential to tell the world about the Masar Ibrahim: the more people who know about it, the bigger the difference it can make to the Palestinian communities living along the trail.
Besides being a part of the team hiking the Masar Ibrahim, every team member will be asked to help promote the trail on social media with #ThruMasar2017 #MasarIbrahim hashtags. You can also enter a photo competition by posting your pictures from the thru-hike and hashtaging them. The prize is a professional hiker’s backpack.
The full programme for the #ThruMasar2017 can be found or downloaded by clicking here.
Meeting points will usually be next to the village councils or municipalities at 8 am. We will post updates about that every day as well.
